Tuk Tuk; Noosa;

Are these road legal? Simple answer. Yes! See below.

ADR (Australian Design Rules)

The Australian Design Rules (ADRs) are our national standards for road vehicle safety, anti-theft and emissions. All new road vehicles manufactured in Australia. and imported new or second-hand vehicles, must comply with the relevant ADRs when they are first supplied to the Australian market.

When a vehicle is first used on an Australian road, the relevant state or territory government legislation generally requires that it complies with the relevant ADRs as at the time of manufacture.

ROVER

ROVER is an administration system for the Road Vehicle Standards (RVS) legislation.

This legislation replaces the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989.

ROVER provides a single integrated system for all approvals and activities under the RVS legislation, allowing you to:

  • Submit and pay for an application
  • Monitor the progress of your application
  • Receive and respond to requests for information regarding your application
  • Be notified of the decision outcome of your application.

Vehicle Type Approval (VTA)

Before road vehicles can be provided to another person for road use in Australia for the first time, they must be entered on the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV), an online database of vehicles that have met the requirements of the RVS legislation and been approved for provision to the Australian market.

To be entered on the RAV a road vehicle must first be granted either a vehicle type approval or a concessional RAV entry approval.

CTP Class - 13 Class 13 CTP cover refers to Compulsory Third Party (Green Slip) insurance for motorcycles with a pillion passenger seat or sidecar in Queensland. It covers your legal liability for personal injuries or death caused to other people if you or anyone riding your bike causes an accident.

What is Covered

  • Personal Injuries: Medical expenses, rehabilitation, and care costs for passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers.
  • Lifetime Support: Access to the National Injury Insurance Scheme      Queensland if anyone is catastrophically injured.
  • Australia-Wide Protection: Coverage applies 24 hours a day across Australia, as long as the motorcycle is registered in QLD.

What is NOT Covered

  • Property Damage: Damage to your own motorcycle or anyone else's vehicle or property. (You need separate Comprehensive or Third Party Property Damage insurance for that).
  • Uninsured or At-Fault Rider Injuries: It does not cover your own injuries if you were the at-fault rider (though severe injuries are covered by the NIISQ levy embedded in your registration).
  • Important Details
  • Class 13 premiums are higher than single-seat motorcycles (Class 12) because of the added risk of carrying a passenger.
  • Prices vary depending on your insurer (like QBE, Allianz, or Suncorp) and your riding history.

Our History

It took two full years (and considerable financial outlay) to finally get approval from the Australian Government to import and sell this type of transport. It hasn't been an easy road by any means. The hurdles required to navigate have been mountainous with approvals and tests and due dilligence. Getting them registered for use in the public domain was another major hurdle. We are here now and we have a lot of people to thank. You know who you are and we are eternally grateful for all of the assistance you have given.
